Former Garstang mayor County Coun. Sandra Perkins is launching a cafe with a difference.
The town and county councillor, who has become a passionate dementia awareness campaigner, has organised a new memory cafe for Alzheimer sufferers and their carers.
The cafe session will be held on the first Wednesday of each month from 10am to noon at Garstang Library with the first session on Wednesday August 6.
She explained: “The idea is that carers and those living with dementia (we don’t say suffering from) will come along for a coffee and a chat.
It will be a chance for carers to meet others in a similar situation and make friends.
“It will be very informal and people can stay for as long as they want– there is no pressure to stay for the whole two hours.”
County Coun Perkins’ late husband, Alan, had dementia and she said: “I know from experience that the Garstang community are dementia friendly and I am hoping that this venture will help to cement that friendship.”
She also paid tribute to the staff at Garstang Library for their support.
