Motorway lane closed for repairs

A westbound section of the M55 near to Broughton has been reduced to two lanes this week as work got under way to reconstruct the carriageway.

Highways Agency contractors have been working around the clock since Monday to deliver a £512,000 project to repair lane one and the hard shoulder of the westbound carriageway west of the Broughton roundabout at junction 1 of the motorway.

The work is expected to be finished by Tuesday, February 4.

The motorway is remaining open at all times, with lane one and the hard shoulder closed each day and with the additional closure of the middle lane between 8pm and 8am each night.

Highways Agency project sponsor Peter Gee said: “This is important work to tackle carriageway wear and tear in lane one, which is heavily used by large commercial vehicles.

“We have planned the work to ensure we can keep two lanes running past the works in the day and minimise any delays. An extra lane is being closed overnight when traffic levels are much lower.”
