The Department for Transport has donated the two vehicles to Preston Community Transport through its Community Minibus Fund, enabling the group to assist more people in travelling to shops and essential appointments, visiting friends and keeping active. One of the vehicles was dedicated to founding volunteer Tommy Cocker, who died in 2014.Howard Dixon, chairman of trustees, said: “I am very proud to introduce our new fleet of vehicles, with a new image for our bright new future.“I met Tommy in 1993 and I had worked with him in every role. He was a volunteer on the buses, in the office and as a trustee. He was unfailing, kind and thoughtful.”Joe Hannett, general manager, said: “The addition of these two buses is massive to us. For the first time we have new vehicles, specifically designed for the work we do, which is helping people with mobility restrictions. “The vehicles are nice and low, allowing accessibility. We are saving up for the rest of the vehicles in the fleet, so we have matching buses.“We provide safe, considerate and accessible transport for eligible people and non-profit groups. “We combat loneliness and isolation in urban and rural areas of central Lancashire, helping to keep people active, engaged in their communities and contribute positively to their health and well-being.”If anyone is interested in using the services of Preston Community Transport or becoming a volunteer driver, speak to Dave, Julie or Joe on 01772 204667 option 2, or visit http://www.prestonct.org.uk
