Nominations are now being sought for an award which honours Wyre’s most inspirational young people.

Every year the Mayor of Wyre presents the prestigious Sheraton Trophy to a rising star who has brought pride to the borough as a result of their achievements.

Wyre Council says itwants to hear about young people who have excelled in any walk of life, be it sport, the arts, community work, volunteering or achievement against the odds.

One deserving winner, chosen by outgoing Mayor Councillor Ron Shewan, will be presented with the trophy at the council’s annual meeting on Thursday 21 May.

Last year’s trophy was awarded to Brandon Evans from Preesall who set up the Preesall Dog Fouling Challenge to tackle dog fouling in his community. He created a Facebook page to get others involved in the challenge and received support from local residents, raising awareness of the problem and encouraging dog owners to be more responsible.

If you know an inspirational young person and wish to nominate them for this year’s Sheraton Trophy, email andrea.mullin@wyre.gov.uk or write to Andrea Mullin, Wyre Council, Civic Centre, Breck Road, Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire, FY6 7PU.

The deadline for entries is 5pm on Friday April 3.
