Pals to mark Lara Jones’s birthday

The friends of a backpacker who died while travelling in Cuba will take part in a charity challenge to mark her birthday.

Lara Jones, from Goosnargh near Preston died in April 2012, next Monday would have been her 28th birthday. On Saturday 12 of her friends will swim across Windermere and then run eight miles back to the start point to raise money for the foundation set up in her name.

The team will swim 1.5 miles across Windermere, They will then rip off their wet suits and run back to the start point.

On Saturday night a birthday party will be held at the Oak Royal Golf and Country Club, Withnell.

The ‘shindig’ aims to celebrate all things Lara and toast the Windermere swimmers and runners.
