Pancake race for church

St Thomas’ Church, Garstang, will be the setting for pancake races on Sunday when youngsters will take fresh look at the real meaning behind Pancake Tuesday.

The service is one of the new Families@9.15am series brought in by vicar the Rev Stephen Grey to introduce young people to church life.

The half-hour services run before the main morning services, which begin at 10.30am.

“It’s our fresh expression of Church,” said Rev Grey. “Half an hour is long enough for small children. This early service is for the young, and also the young at heart.

“Our last service was so successful that we had 50 children releasing balloons with prayers attached to them.

“And the adults from the following service released around 20 balloons representing the 20 local charities which beneifited from our Christmas Tree festival.”
