Garstang has been lit up ready for Christmas as the town’s festive lights were officially switched on.
Hundreds of people turned out to this year’s event, signalling the start of the countdown to Christmas. The switch-on was announced by Garstang Town Crier Hilary McGrath, ahead of carols and a blessing.
Crowds were joined by civic dignitaries including the Mayor of Wyre Coun Tom Balmain, and Garstang Mayor Lynn Harter, as well as Damian Carr of the Chamber of Trade.
Jill Cross, of Iced of Garstang and part of the committee for the switch-on, said several hundred people turned out to the event.
She said: “We were singing carols and then there was a countdown to the switch-on.
“Then they blessed the crib and we sang another carol, and then all the elves gave out sweets to the children.
“It went well, we were pleased with it.
“There was a fundraiser that has to be done to light the streets up every year, and we have managed to do that.”
