As warmer weather arrives, householders are being urged not to become complacent but to plan ahead for colder months.

The National Insulation
Association (NIA) is stressing that summer is the ideal time to insulate homes in order to combat those inevitable rising energy bills.

The call comes as a survey from the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has revealed that almost 60 per cent of adults in the UK are concerned about the rising cost of energy and its affect on household income.

The survey also showed that eight out of 10 people are conscious of saving energy in their home.

The NIA advises that home insulation is the single most effective method of saving money on domestic energy bills, with savings continuing year on year.

With the average annual bill of a standard dual fuel tariff in the UK currently at £1,420 per year, householders need to make their homes as energy efficient as possible if they are to beat future price increases.

Neil Marshall, NIA chief executive, said: “Savings of up to £320 per year can be made by simply installing cavity wall and loft insulation. The savings are even greater for insulating solid walls and lofts up to £655 per year. Furthermore, according to the Energy Saving Trust, installing cavity wall and loft insulation together costs on average £800; this means they can pay for themselves in less than three years.”

Householders are advised to contact an NIA member who can advise them on the most appropriate and efficient method possible of insulating their home.

NIA members adhere to a strict Code of Professional Practice so peace of mind comes as standard.

The NIA represents the manufacturers, system designers and installers of cavity wall, external wall and internal wall insulation, loft insulation and draught proofing. The NIA and its members are committed to providing a high quality, value for money service to householders, housing managers, developers and businesses.

To find a local NIA member, householders should visit the NIA website or ring 08451 636363.
