Garstang’s homegrown award winning poets will take centre stage for the ever-growing Arts Festival.

Local writers Ron Scowcroft, Norman Hadley and Rachel McGladdery are reading a selection of their poetry at Garstang Library on Tuesday August 25.

Winner of the McLellan Prize for Poetry Ron Scowcroft, a recent guest reader at the Isle of Arran Arts Festival and the Headingley, Leeds Literature Festival, said the trio were delighted to be taking part in Garstang’s own arts week celebrations.

Rachel McGladdery gained national attention when Poet Laureate Carol-Ann Duffy presented her with the John Lennon Memorial Prize and Norman Hadley was highly commended in the Yorkmix poetry competition earlier this year.

The evening, which promises to be a relaxed and informal affair, begins at 7pm.

Entry is £2, including refreshments.

The week-long festival is now in its 21st year and features a fusion of art, music, drama, culture, crafts, workshops and local produce. Events conclude with the North West Town Crier’s competition on August 31.
