Wyre residents and civic leaders are preparing to honour the memory of those who have given their lives whilst serving in British forces whilst serving their country.
They will commemorate their bravery with a programme of remembrance events across the borough.
On Friday (November 8), the Mayor and Mayoress of Wyre, Councillor John and Mrs Linda Hodgkinson, are hosting the Northern Festival of Remembrance at Marine Hall, Fleetwood.
The festival features a host of musical delights, including The Band of the King’s Division, and will be narrated by BBC Radio Lancashire’s Sally Naden.
There will also be a Parade of Standards and Drum Head Service led by the Mayor’s Chaplain Reverend Jayne Ward. The event takes place at 7.30pm and all the proceeds will be donated to the Mayor’s charities, MacMillan Cancer Support and Blue Skies Hospital Fund and in addition, the Royal British Legion. The Mayor is also hosting an Armistice Day Service at Marine Hall on Monday (November 11) at 10.40am. A two minutes’ silence will be held at 11am and all are welcome to attend.
In Garstang on Sunday (November 10) you are invited to assemble at 10am at the Community Centre car park. A service will be held in St Thomas’ Church at 10.30am, followed by wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial. Coun Tom Balmain, ward councillor for Garstang, will attend the service and lay the council’s wreath on the Mayor’s behalf. In Preesall on Sunday a procession will assemble at the car park, Lancaster Road at 1.45pm for service at St Oswald’s Church at 2.30pm.
Barton Bilsborrow and Myerscough residents will pay tribute on Monday, assembling at the Bilsborrow War Memorial at 11.40am.
