Despite the traditional British summer rain, Garstang Rugby Club’s open day was a success.
The open day was attended by guests including the town’s mayor, as the club continues trying to attract new members.
Club president Bob Johnson said that there was “always recruitment going on”, as the club is often losing members to other commitments.
Mr Johnson’s hopes for the future are for a ladies squad of around 25 andeventually having enough members in order to have two women’s teams. The women’s team will play 12 games in the league this season far more than last term.
The club hopes that the recent success of the England women’s team, who won the World Cup last week, will boost interest in the sport.
On the men’s side, Mr Johnson is also hopeful that an increase in members will mean they can reform the men’s third team.
