Festive food: Year 7 pupils and headteacher Phil Birch presenting the hampers to Carol Killeen, of Regenda

Needy families in the area received a festive boost with hampers from youngsters at Garstang Community Academy.

Carol Killeen, of Regenda Housing Association in Garstang, accepted 19 charity food hampers from pupils, just in time for the festivities.

The food was donated by Year 7 pupils and parents, together with school staff, in a project was organised by religious education subject leader Nadine Hockey.

As part of the RE programme, pupils had been debating the full meaning of Christmas, and the time for selfless giving prompted them to suggest the project.

The hampers were distributed to residents of the Regenda group in the Garstang community.
