Scorton sports pitch opens after years of fund-raising

Campaigners are celebrating after a six-year project to fund an all-weather sports field for the village finally reached its target.

Thousands of pounds have been raised since the Bikes and Barrows festival started in 2010 in Scorton and now the village has opened its state of the art all-weather sports field.

Known locally as the MUGA, it has facilites for almost every ball game including a football pitch, basketball, netball and tennis.

On land donated by Richard Anderton behind the Methodist Church, the site were built by Grimsargh contractors, J W Ramsbottom Contractors Ltd.

Mike Howes, one of many residents involved in the project, said: “They’ve done a splendid job .”
