THE hunt is on for Garstang’s dirtiest dog.
Wyre Council’s dog warden has appealed to the public for help in tracing the owner of a pooch believed to be regularly leaving dog mess on the town’s streets.
Reports of fouling in several areas, including Park Hill Road, outside High Street shops and near Moss Lane play area footpath, have increased in recent months.
A council spokeswoman said: “It appears to be occurring late at night or early in the morning and it is thought that the same dog is responsible in each instance.”
Wyre Council is currently investigating and wants the help of the public in identifying the dog and its owner.
His or her identity is unknown, as is the breed of the dog.
The council spokeswoman said: “It is illegal to fail to clean up after your dog in public areas and doing so can result in a fine of £50. Fines can be issued on the spot or afterwards if the offence is witnessed.”
The council says it recognises the vast majority of residents are responsible dog owners and asks that residents report any incidents of dog fouling or any information that may help to identify the offender by ringing 01253 891000.
