Stalmine Post Office has a new home in a village hall 100 metres from its old location.
Services are now being provided from St James’ House, Hall Gate Lane but for reduced hours on just three days a week.
Local subpostmasters are providing what is known as a “hosted outreach service” following the retirement of Postmaster Peter Swarbrick whose PO was open six days a week, with half days on Thursday and Saturday.
The new opening hours are 10am – 1pm on Monday and 12.45pm to 3.45pm on Tuesday and Thursday.
Post Office Field Change Advisor, Mick Renshaw, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Stalmine and we are confident the hosted outreach service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.
“The Post Office had made a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”
The same range of services continues to be available and the new premises offer disabled access, a hearing loop and parking facilities.
