Slipping and sliding on the ice was how some families spent their half-term after a rink was set up at a Bilsborrow tourist attraction.

Owd Nell’s Tavern opened up its own winter wonderland as children and adults of all ages put on their skates over the last week.

Open to skaters of all abilities the purpose-built rink provided the perfect getting away in what was wet half-term.

With the latest chart-toppers playing in the background everyone could have a good time, even if you didn’t fancy getting on the ice.

Those who stayed out of the cold could enjoy a hot mulled wine or the tavern’s own Hot Canalside Chocolate sitting beside the open fires.

Training penguins were used for those a little less steady on their feet as hundreds wrapped up warm to descend upon the Tavern’s rink.

And up next at Owd Nell’s is a St Patrick’s Day celebration from March 17 until March 19.

Andrew Eakhurst, manager, said: “It was really good and everyone really seemed to enjoy themselves.

“We’ve been really busy and the ice rink has proved really popular.

“We also had some fairground rides and not only have people been skating but they’ve been in and out the tavern too. Overall it’s been very successful and we’re really pleased with how it went.”
