Drivers are warned to expect delays in Preesall and Pilling area over the next week while one of the main routes between Poulton-le-Fylde and Lancaster is closed.
The A588 Hallgate Lane will be closed to through-traffic from 9am to 5pm today until Tuesday, February 26, while urgent repairs are carried out at the junction of Hallgate Lane and Cemetery Lane.
Lancashire County Council highways manager Sim Lane-Dixon said: “We’re sorry for the inconvenience while Hallgate Lane is closed but we have to resurface this area urgently due to the damage caused to the road by the recent cold weather.
“Because it’s such a busy route and we haven’t wanted to cause disruption by closing it, we’ve repaired this junction with large patches over recent years which is work we can do while keeping the road open.
“Unfortunately, the recent wet and freezing weather has damaged the road surface to such an extent that we can no longer avoid the need to fully resurface this area, which can only be done safely by closing Hallgate Lane.”
Bus routes will also be affected.
The work is being carried out during the schools half-term to minimise disruption as far as possible.
