A PENSIONER was airlifted to hospital after collapsing while out on a country walk with friends on Nicky Nook.

Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team was called out to assist the 72-year-old woman, who became ill during on the fell at 11.23am last Tuesday, August 23.

The North West Air Ambulance was also called and the woman, from Wigan, was flown to the Royal Preston Hospital. A spokesman for the mountain rescue team said: “The rescue team carried the lady up hill some 300 metres on a specialised mountain rescue stretcher to the waiting helicopter.”
