THE possibility of a return to weekly rubbish bin collections in Wyre has been raised, after the government signalled it will give cash help to councils which moved to a fortnightly collection.
Eric Pickles, Secretary of State for Local Government, is considering offering councils cash to help them replace fortnightly collection services with a weekly service.
Wyre adopted alternate weekly collections six years ago, with general waste being collected one week and recyclable waste the week after.
A council spokeswoman said: “The full details of the incentivised scheme have not yet officially been announced and until then Wyre Council’s position cannot be determined.
“The decision whether or not to join the scheme will be made by the cabinet.”
Wyre’s current contract with its waste collection partner, Fylde Council, is due to end in March next year, with a new waste collection contract due to begin on April 1, 2012.
