SPEEDWAY star Adam Wrathall, 16, has defied the odds to get back on track after being seriously injured in a crash a year ago.
It was touch and go for a time but, 12 months on, Adam, from Hambleton, has made a miraculous recovery.
He crashed during a race and was flung 15 feet in the air, suffering a serious head injury and broken bones in his legs and back.
Adam spent a month in intensive care after the crash which happened just moments into his dream Easter Sunday debut for top national side Oxford Cheetahs.
But, on the anniversary of the terrifying accident, Adam is back on his bike and already racing again.
He has been given the all clear and has just been snapped up by Scunthorpe Saints Conference Team.
Adam does not remember anything about the crash, meaning the St Aidan's High School pupil felt no fear when he returned to his beloved bikes.
Riding
"I don't remember anything about riding the last time so when I first got on the bike I thought I'd be okay," he said.
"I thought it would still be second nature, but actually it felt very different and I had to get back into it.
"But I was just really glad to be riding again, and when the Scunthorpe Conference Team approached me and asked me to ride for them I was even more excited."
Before the accident Adam, who twice won the British Under-15 grass track championship and came third in 2006 in the British Under-15 championships, is already showing signs of further success.
He took part in his first grass race two weeks ago and finished fourth in the final.
Adam hopes to be able to take part in a few races for Scunthorpe after his exams, and will start competing properly at the start of the 2009 season.
