COMPETITORS from across Lancashire and crowds of supportive friends and family turned out for yet another successful Garstang High School 10K and fun run.
Despite having to re-schedule the race after the extreme wintry weather at the start of the year, over 300 people turned out to take part in the popular annual event.
First home, for the second year running, was Steve Littler from Wesham RR in a time of 32 minutes and five seconds.
Lancaster and Morecambe runner Jack Modley was the first locally based athlete to finish, coming through in 17th position in a time of 36:48.
Following the 10k race, 60 mainly young people joined in the fun run, with George Banks and Garstang High School student Thomas Taylor providing a nail-biting finish. George was the eventual winner in 11:30.
Geoff Markland, education community co-ordinator at Garstang High, said: "It was very successful and went extremely well. We couldn't have asked for better weather, it really was a beautiful day and there was a great atmosphere.""
Organiser Dianne Clarke said that the change of date meant the race clashed with another Lancashire event but they had still attracted competitors from as far afield as Dumfries.
She said: "There were a lot of remarks on how well organised the event is but we strive for that every year.
"The race is always popular as it is usually the first event of the new year and runners come from all over, year on year, to take part.
"It's a really lovely course and people always comment on how lovely the views are and how nice it is to be out in the fresh air.
"It was a beautiful day for running and everyone enjoyed themselves."
Although it is not clear how much was raised during the day, all the funds will go towards the new Garstang Sports Hall.
