Garstang FC celebrates success
GARSTANG FC held its presentation night at the Pickerings Hotel when the focus was on the achievements of both teams in winning their respective leagues.
The first team landed the West Lancs Premier League Championship for the first in the club's history, while the second team secured promotion and the title in their league after several years of knocking on the door.
Mick Gornall landlord of the Kings Arms and the club's main sponsor presented the captains of both teams with the championship trophies.
He also presented the players with their individual league medals. The first team player and player's player of the year trophies both went to goalkeeper Neil Beesley.
Matt Bladwin won the second team player of the year and also won the West Lancs League Golden boot award as the top scorer in all the divisions with 32 league goals.
Ryan Twiname took the second team player of the year trophy, whilst his captain Joe Miller took the young player award after performances beyond his years.
The Malcolm Hoyles Clubman of the Year was once again won by Steve Baker. Also a special award of Honorary Life Vice-President was made to Fred Miller in recognition of all his years of service to the club.
Club treasurer, Marc Armstrong, said: "The evening was about celebrating the excellent achievements of both teams and a season beyond our wildest dreams. It was very pleasing to see a large number of players, family and even supporters enjoying the occasion.
"I was especially pleased for Neil Beesley to win both player of the year awards as he has worked particularly hard during the season and has proved his critics wrong in the best possible way.
"His performances have been instrumental in the sucess of the team and he was a deserved winner of the awards.
"Also Steve has worked tremendously hard through the season for both teams and he is the first person to retain the Clubman of the year award.
"The second team player of the year vote was a lot closer that the first team however Matt Baldwin took this. Matt has been a prolific scorer during the season and this award reflects his efforts.
"Also he received the honour of being the West Lancs Golden Boot which is a fabulous achievement. I would also like to express mine and the club's gratitude to Mick from the Kings and all our board sponsors. As treasurer of the club I more than most know how vital your support is and how much you have contributed to the sucess of the club, thank you very much. Finally Fred Miller was rightly recognised for his years of selfless service to the club and he was one of several people to shed a tear of joy on the night "
