Garstang firsts win derby battle
Garstang Ladies 2nd 0
Garstang Ladies 1st 5
GARSTANG'S first team clinched a vital win over their clubmates in this derby game.
In what was a must-win game for the 1st XI in their continued push for promotion, Garstang 1 took control from the off and for the first twenty mins were camped in the 2nds half, maintaining possession and piling on pressure in the D.
Eventually their persistence paid off and Kim Bell got the first goal with a lifted shot followed by Vicki Conlan scoring the second after directing the ball in at the far post from a penalty corner.
Once 2-0 up Garstang 1 sat back and invited the 2nds to push forward, with Nicky Laga, Diane Roe and Laura Kennedy making some good breaks although the 1st XI defence stood firm.
The second half saw all the play in Garstang 2's half. Although the 2's defended well with Margaret Crofts holding the backline and putting in a superior solo performance, they were unable to stop Summers from lifting the ball over an in-form Vicky Bradley into the goal to make it 3-0 and Kim Bell from grabbing her second goal with a reverse shot from the top of the D.
Catherine Godbold netted the fifth after firing in a shot from a penalty corner, marking her return to the side.
Garstang 2 put in a spirited performance and if they continue to play with this determination and belief then survival in this league looks promising.
