GARSTANG golf pro Will Barnes has played himself into the sport's elite by qualifying for the prestigious PGA Cup.
The 32-year-old is one of 10 club professionals who will represent Great Britain and Ireland in a Ryder Cup-style event against the US in September.
Will made the cut through impressive results in the two pro tournament qualifiers last year, beating nearly 1,500 other club pros that entered.
It is a pinnacle of club pro level to qualify for the PGA Cup team and a chance to represent your country, and Will can't wait for the tournament at The Carrick, on the banks of Loch Lomand.
He said: "It's a great feeling. The US won last time out so we are desperate to regain the trophy.''
Will is head of junior development at Garstang's golf academy, and hopes his playing success will help draw attention to what's going on at the club.
"Things are building really well. We've had the academy properly functioning for about eight months and have some exciting plans,'' he said.
Will moved to Lancashire last year from the Midlands, where he ran his own golf academy and worked at The Belfry. He now lives in Lancaster, where his wife is from originally.
