GARSTANG FC have appointed experienced coach George Norrie as their new first team manager following a week of frantic activity at the Riverside club.
Norrie has a wealth of football coaching knowledge after a long career in the game that has seen him manage at clubs including Gretna, Workington and latterly Carnforth Rangers and Trimpell at Morecambe for the past three seasons, during which time he took them to promotion.
He has also been reserve team boss at Lancaster City and was on the coaching staff at Morecambe FC when they were still in non-league.
Norrie is also well known for his extensive connections in the game, particularly in the Scottish League and SPL, and he has helped develop the careers of a number of young players from Lancashire by introducing them to clubs north of the border, perhaps most notably that of former Morecambe midfielder Jamie McGowan, who went on to have a long professional career in Scotland at clubs including Dundee and Motherwell.
Striker
Another of those players was striker Michael Yates, who was another Norrie find and was on the books at Dundee before coming down to non-league level in Lancashire where he has played for several clubs including a couple of seasons at Lancaster City.
Yates also works as a coach at Liverpool FC's Academy and joins Norrie as player/coach at Garstang.
A club spokesman said: "Between them they have excellent coaching qualifications and experience and we are hoping that they will help the club to maintain the momentum we have built up in the last few years.''
The appointment of a new first team manager isn't the only change at Garstang in recent days.
Adrian Wilding has re-joined the club as chairman after stepping down from the position about two years ago, and has brought in experienced commercial manager Les Taylor - who has worked at numerous league and non-league clubs including Blackpool, Lancaster City and Morecambe - on a part-time basis to help develop the club for the future.
