Shireshead 72 all out

Milnthorpe 76 for 1

Milnthorpe won by nine wickets

Shireshead turned in their worst batting performance of the season at Milnthorpe and crashed to defeat by 9 wickets.

Upon winning the toss Shireshead had no option but to bat first, despite the bowler-friendly conditions, in an attempt to capture a maximum 15 point haul. It was not to be, however, as a procession of Shireshead batsmen surrendered their wickets tamely with S Singleton (6 for 15) the grateful beneficiary.

The Shireshead bowlers and fielders fought bravely to defend their woefully inadequate total of 72 and to their credit it did at least take Milnthorpe 37 overs to reach their target, albeit for the loss of a solitary wicket.

Bolton-le-Sands 107 all out

Shireshead 111 for 3

Shireshead won by seven wickets

Shireshead righted some of the wrongs of Saturday’s performance at Milnthorpe as they beat Bolton-le-Sands by 7 wickets on Bank Holiday Monday at Clifton Park.

Sands won the toss and elected to bat first but slipped to 19 for 2 as Peter Wilson and Dave Jack (2 for 39) picked up early wickets.

That soon became 45 for 4 but M Clarkson (37) and M Cole (26) added 46 in good time for the fifth wicket to leave Sands handily placed at 91 for 4 in the 28th over. Wilson had bowled unchanged but with little reward to this point, however his exceptional control was to bring him a rush of four wickets, all clean bowled, as the Sands innings subsided to 107 all out and he finished with the superb figures of 6 for 26 from 17 overs. Tom Jacques (2 for 11) also chipped in.

Shireshead’s openers Tom Jacques (26) and Paul Yates began their reply steadily against the pace of Clarkson and accuracy of A Dyson. Gradually the innings gathered pace and the pair added 75 fluently before Jacques was removed by M Jones (2 for 19). Simon Gould and Dave Jack came and went but skipper Yates saw his side home to victory as he finished unbeaten on 58.
