Garstang 246-5 –
Houghton 131 all out

Last season’s Division One Champions Houghton provided the opposition for the game at Riverside on Saturday.

On winning the toss, Garstang elected to bat first. Michael Walling and Curtis Morris began to attack the visitors’ bowling and soon had the fielders spread out.

They shared a partnership of 103 before Morris was bowled for 28.

Mark Winstanley joined his skipper and they kept the momentum going with shots to all parts of the ground.

The tiring Walling was caught in the 40th over for a fine knock of 132.

Ian Walling was sent in to keep the scoreboard ticking over, but in going for a quick single collided with Winstanley, and in so doing ran his partner out for 40.

Phil Miller (4) was also run out. Allan Cook (17) and Andrew Norris (2) were the not out batsmen at the end, the total on 246 for 5.

After tea, the opposition set about their task, and were soon in trouble in losing three wickets in the first seven overs for nine runs.

Then partnerships of 33 from Taylor and Monks (15), and one of 50 from Taylor (51) and Roberts-Aldridge (22) were the only significant offerings from the visitors, in an all-out total of 131 in the 43rd over.

Ian Walling was the pick of the Garstang bowlers in taking 4 for 28, ably supported by Jim Procter 3 for 38 and Chris Gill 3 for 31.
