West Lancs Premier League.
Fleetwood Hesketh 0
At last a win for The Riversiders as the return to the refurbished home ground proved to be a good one. The ground looked in pristine condition with the new goals the icing on the cake.
Garstang started the game very positively with Dodd hitting the bar as early as the second minute and Gaz Fawcett heading just wide a few minutes later. Thornley in the Garstang goal was brought into action twice on the half hour mark, first making a smart save following a defensive mix up and then tipping the ball over the bar when Wright cut inside and unleashed a goal bound shot.
The last action of the first half came when Gierke flicked on a goal kick to Dodd who fired just wide. The second half followed much the same pattern with Hesketh having more possession but the hard working midfield and defence restricting them to long range shots. The game changer came on 75 minutes when Dodd broke through two challenges and though his left foot shot lacked power it squirmed over Wilkinson in the Fleetwood goal to nestle in the corner of the net and at last a little bit of luck had come Garstang’s way. This rattled the visitors with Blackhurst being booked for tussling with team mate Hoy.
Hoy was subbed a couple of minutes later to avoid him being sent off. On 82 minutes Dodd broke free on the right and hit a shot across the keeper which came back of the inside of the far post, it looked as though Poole would follow up to score but a last ditch challenge cleared the ball. Unfortunately for the away side the ball fell to Fawcett who drove into the box and smashed the ball home from 6 yards and Garstang’s first win of the season was within touching distance.
The home side then looked to keep the ball in the corner and deep into stoppage time the ball broke to Dodd who laid the ball into the 6 yard box where Matichechia was on hand to complete the scoring from close range.
