Manager Paul Bailey had the luxury of picking from a strong squad of 15 for Monday’s game, but it must have been a difficult decision picking the starting line up as all the players are in good form at the moment.
The visitors started strongly and went ahead on 10 minutes when a free kick won by Graham on the right hand edge of the box was swung in left footed by Ireland and eluded everyone to finish in the far corner.
Eight minutes later it was 2-0 when man of the match ‘Rocky Roskell played in Graham who beat the keeper to the ball, touched it past him before being brought crashing down, Taylor confidently dispatching the resultant penalty.
Tempest fought back and from a corner Stuart was deemed to have brought down Tobin in the box and although Curwen kept out Skelly’s penalty the rebound favoured the striker who was able to force home the rebound. Stuart redeemed himself on 32 minutes when he charged down a miss hit back pass and the ricochet fell nicely into his path to roll it into the empty net.
Just after the hour mark Rothwell picked up a booking for clattering Graham and paid an even bigger penalty when, from the resultant free kick, Ireland smashed in his second off the post from 30 yards.
Any faint hopes Tempest had of a come back were extinguished on 69 minutes when Lewis in the host’s goal, who was not having the best of days, miss kicked a through ball which fell to Garstang striker Kippax who tapped in Garstang’s fifth but unfortunately in his frustration Lewis lunged two footed at Kippax after the ball had gone and was given a straight red.
Panepinto and Taylor picked up yellows in the ensuing fracas and the referee did well to calm things down for the rest of the game.
Garstang finished the scoring with the last kick of the game when Southward played a free kick to Bardsley on the edge of the box who chested it neatly into the path of Panepinto who calmly lobbed the stand in keeper. Team: Dan Curwen, Kelvin Bardsley, Phil Roskell, Joe Miller, John Baldwin, Andy Taylor (capt), Andy Ireland, Tom Graham, Ben Stuart, Adam Roskell, Mark Kippax Subs: Jack Swindlehurst (for Stuart 60), Oscar Panepinto (for Graham 66), Paul Southward (for Taylor 71) Dan Sutcliff (unused).
On Monday, Garstang Reserves scored the only goal in the home clash with Thornton Cleveleys Reserves, with Joe Miller man of the match.
