Slyne Heskin 2
Longridge Town 3
After two tough away games in the league Longridge again found themselves on their travels but this time in the cup with a semi-final place at stake.
Keefe and Gornall again had a strong squad to choose from with Bates, English and St Vall all back.
The game kicked off on a very heavy pitch and both teams struggled to put any passes together in the opening 10 minutes and Longridge were having to cope with some very heavy challenges. With 20 minutes played, it was the home side who went ahead.
A free kick was put into the Longridge box and after a scramble the Slyne forward found himself all alone and cooly slipped the ball under Bates. Longridge recovered and started to push Slyne deeper and five minutes later drew level.
A free kick by Wilkes caused confusion in the Slyne box and when the ball fell to skipper Heywood, he smashed the ball home from the edge of the box.
The second half kicked off and Longridge started getting more joy down the sides of the Slyne defence. Dean and Coar both had half chances and Longridge had a good shout for a penalty when the Slyne defender looked to handle a shot on the line but the referee waved play on.
With 15 minutes left to play, it was the home side who went ahead. A long ball found the Slyne forward and he held it up before finding his teamate from midfield and he took into the box un challenged before shooting beyond the diving Bates.
Longridge’s response was almost immediate when another goalmouth scramble saw Coar bundle home to set up a great final 10 minutes
Heywood missed from one yard out, then English produced a wonderful save from the Slyne keeper, then St Vall shot after out pacing the Slyne defence.
