Garstang res 1

Garstang rescued a point on Saturday with a 93rd minute equaliser at Charnock as at last they had a long awaited slice of luck.

Manager, Paul Bailey, had spent most of Friday night and Saturday morning on the phone trying to get a side together as first team call ups, injuries and unavailability had decimated his squad. Eventually he got 12 players together including youth team debutant Rory Mower.

The first half was fairly even with defences in charge although Garstang were fortunate when a Pinches header from a corner was blocked on the line by Phil Roskell although he knew very little about it, and another scramble had Charnock claiming the ball had crossed the line but the ref waved play on.

Ten minutes into the second half, a Charnock corner was headed in unchallenged by Pinches and at this point it looked like four really tough games in eight days had taken its toll on the visitors as the home side took charge. To their credit Garstang hung on with Baldwin, Miller, Butler and Roskell working over time at the back and it was Garstang who had the best chance when Mower headed just over from a free kick.

And a Garstang corner in the third minute of injury time was played in to the near post by Adam Roskell, Graham got the faintest of touches, the ball bobbled into the back of the net and that proved to be the last kick of the game. Some weary players had at last got some reward for their efforts and ‘never say die’ attitude.

Man of the Match: John Baldwin.

Garstang: Dan Curwen, Phil Roskell, Rob Butler, John Baldwin, Joe Miller, Paul Southward, Adam Roskell, Andy Taylor (capt), Oscar Panepinto, Ben Stuart, Tom Graham. Sub: Rory Mower (for Southward 61).
