Garstang Res 1

Haslingden St Marys Res 2

Garstang snatched defeat from the jaws of victory as the basic defensive errors which have blighted this season came back to haunt them again.

The first half was short on chances with both defences on top. Stuart had a shot blocked and a header that flicked the bar and Swindlehurst brought a decent save from English. Haslingden’s Wade got booked on 18 minutes for a petulant kick at Taylor and a few minutes later should have walked when he retaliated on Miller.

The home side began the second half brightly with Jack having a header kicked off the line .

They took the lead on 52 minutes when Swindlehurst played in Jack and his fierce shot was pushed out to Stuart who smashed the ball home.

Two minutes later Curwen acrobatically tipped over a header from a free kick but at this point Garstang were looking good value for their lead over the league leaders.

The game turned on its head on the hour mark when Bardsley, under no pressure, inexplicably cushioned a header into the path of that man Wade who planted the ball in the back of the net. Eight minutes later a ball over the top left Robinson with half the pitch to run into and score the winner.
