A strong Garstang Football Club reserve team squad that included first team players Lee Baker, Gaz Fawcett and Josh Draycott were unable to break down a well organised and workmanlike Carnforth Rangers side who ran out 1-0 winners.
There was a stroke of good fortune in Carnforth’s goal after only 12 minutes although the visitors had already shown their credentials.
The game was an evenly fought contest dominated by defenders from both teams limiting the strikers to few opportunities.
The only concern for managers Swan and Bailey will be whether there is enough firepower in both the first and second team squads although the pre-season games have lacked holidaying strikers.
Two more friendlies at home to Kendal Town and away to Galgate today, Wednesday, July 31, kick off at 7pm, precede the “real stuff” on Saturday when Garstang play their first game back in the West Lancs Premier League against Tempest at the Riverside.
Further forthcoming fixtures are: Monday, August 5, KO. 6.45pm, Garstang Reserves v Fulwood Amateurs Reserves and Tuesday, August 6, KO 6.45pm, Crooklands v Garstang.
