Houston Cup 1st Round
Blackpool Wren Rovers Res 0
Garstang Res 1
Garstang progressed to the next round of the cup but it was a real battle on a sticky pitch.
Wrens suffered a blow in the first minute,e losing Crosby to a nasty ankle strain, and the first 15 minutes was scrappy before Garstang also lost a key player when Swindlehurst had to come off after failing to recover from a knock.
The visitors gave the ball away cheaply and it was 40 minutes before they had a shot and this was way off target by Sutcliff.
Things turned against the hosts seven minutes into first half injury time when Graham turned May 30 yards out before being brought crashing down. The ref deemed May was the last man and brandished the red card.
Ten-man Wrens continued to press in the second half and Cram blazed over Ben Stuart won the game in the 70th minute. Adam Roskell played in a cross from the right which Stuart controlled 16 yards out on his chest before hooking the ball over the Speight in the Rovers goal.
Graham had chance to kill the game with five minutes to go when Stuart played him in but Speight was quick off his line to make a good block.
