Garstang YTH 2

Garstang conceded two late goals in an entertaining game on Sunday morning.

A few players were rested giving others a chance to stake a claim for a regular place in the starting 11.

Both teams worked hard in the early stages of the game but no real pattern emerged and chances were limited.

An injury to Hall meant Assalone came on up front, Makinson slotting into midfield.

The home side took the lead when a break down Garstang’s left gave the Penwortham striker time and space to hit a curling shot into the top corner.

Garstang responded Turner dribbled through the defence to have his shot saved and several corners couldn’t produce an equaliser.

As half time approached a good run and cross by Makinson found Turner who side-footed home, the home team appealed it hadn’t crossed the line but the referee gave the goal 1:1.

A few changes were made at half time, Mower and Ball replacing Pakeman and Makinson.

Garstang took a deserved lead when Turner once again in the right spot side footed home from a right wing cross.

A Swale’s header over the bar and three goal line clearances were just a few as Garstang tried to finish the game off.

The missed chances would prove costly; a misplaced pass in midfield allowed Penwortham to break away and draw level.

Penwortham went in front when a sliced shot fell into the path of the winger and he shot home.

Garstang still had the time to waste two good chances before the final whistle went.
