Lancashire Amateur Shield

Croston Sports 3, Garstang 3 – Croston win 4–3 on penalties

Garstang’s season took another dive when Division 2 club Croston dumped them out of the Lancashire Amateur Shield in the First Round.

After four minutes, a long clearance from Curwen caught the home defence back pedalling, Poole laying the ball into the path of Barnett who hammered the ball home, 0–1.

The game was end-to-end and Croston deservedly equalised in the 30th minute when Masterson ran through the Garstang defence before smashing the ball past Curwen.

Garstang continued to create their own chances and every attack from both teams looked like a goal but it was Garstang who regained the lead after 39 minutes when Fawcett finished after a smart interchange of passes involving Dodd, Barnett and Poole.

It looked as if the visitors were going into a comfortable half time lead when in the 44th minute Poole converted a precise cross field ball by Dodd, that was until Alty smashed in a 45th minute free kick to make it 2–3. The goalmouth action in the second half all but dried up with chances at a premium. but the scores were level on 76 minutes when Hogg volleyed home an Alty free kick.

Poole could have been the hero in the last minute but he pulled his shot wide taking the game into a fatal penalty shoot out.

For the record, Poole, Dodd and Louth scored their “spot kicks” McGahon and Baker both missed.
