WEST LANCS. PREMIER LEAGUE

GARSTANG v EUXTON VILLA

Result: 2 – 1

Garstang gave everything they had to secure all three points against a decent Euxton Team in a very hard fought game.

The home team had made a bright start before Taylor shot narrowly wide with only four minutes on the clock. It was an unnecessary trip by Wood on Gierke just inside the box, a minute later that gave Poole the opportunity to make it 1 – 0 from the spot.

By the 20th minute Euxton had settled and were dominating possession and but for some resilient defending by Baker and Crossley the score could have been different. On the odd occasion that the visitors did have the sight of goal Brindle did brilliantly when he tipped an excellent strike from Billington over the bar.

The second half began with a strong appeal for handball in the Garstang penalty box, Hogg was yellow carded for his protestations.

Danny McGahon was also booked but for a late challenge on Hutton as Garstang eventually succumbed to the visitors pressure when the unlucky Baker headed past his own Keeper in the 57th minute.

To their credit Garstang’s character and commitment prevailed, Taylor and Fawcett in midfield with Gierke and Poole up front all inspiring a fine team effort and a second goal in the 65th minute.

McGahon picked out Fawcett who had made a trademark run down the left, his dangerous cross was met by, who else but top scorer Poole who made it 2 – 1, steering the ball past Gibbs. Baker headed a Gierke corner back across the goal line then Swift cleared off the goal line following another good run and shot by Poole. After a good passage of play by Garstang the last 15 minutes was at times backs to the wall. Marland blasted over then a great double save by Brindle preserved the points for his team before the final whistle. In the same hectic period Andrews and Thompson picked up bookings for Euxton and Taylor for Garstang.

The match was sponsored by BAMBER PLUMBING and HEATING who chose Conor Crossley has their Man of the Match.
