West Lancs Premier League:

Lostock St Gerards 2-2 Garstang

A late goal denied Garstang victory in their first clash of the new season against Lostock St Gerards.

The Riversiders took the lead twice after fine strikes from Fawcett and Poole but the host’s fought back and danger-man Buchan coolly dispatched an 88th minute set-piece to ensure a 2-2 draw.

Garstang made an immediate impact as Fawcett pounced. The home keeper had palmed away Poole’s corner and Fawcett latched on the loose ball and smashed a fierce volley into the back of the net in the sixth minute.

And the host’s upped the ante as Thornley tipped a close range effort from Carsley over the bar. A good run and pass by Dodd set Gierke through on goal but the official ruled him offside. And Poole forced Lostock keeper Unsworth into a good save moments later.

But a fortuitous strike levelled the scoreline just before half-time. Carsley’s strike took a wicked deflection and left Garstang stopper Thornley with no chance in the 43rd minute.

The visitors were rattled and it showed at the beginning of the second half as Gierke gained the first booking of the game. Garstang keeper Thornley was on hand yet again saving from Buchan. But the Lostock striker was yellow carded for a late challenge on Graham minutes later.

Garstang regained the lead in the 62nd minute when Fawcett’s flick-on was met by Poole who stormed into the box, danced his way past the keeper and smashed the
ball home. Edmonds was booked for an elbow on Poole and the Garstang striker had to be replaced after the incident and new signing Luke Bradley was brought on for his league debut. A solo run from Graham - in an unfamiliar wing back role - nearly sealed victory in the 86th minute.

He evaded a heavy tackle deep, ran the full length of the pitch and cut inside before unleashing a shot that came back of the post, across the face of goal and out to safety.

But within two minutes the Riversiders were punished as the reliable Uberschar pulled down Buchan on the edge of the box. The Garstang man was booked and the Lostock striker curled the free kick over the wall past Thornley.
