Garstang 3

Norcross & Warbreck 2

Garstang claimed all three points deep into injury time when Poole headed home a Melling corner at the near post.

The home team were a goal down after only nine minutes. Brindle had tipped a good effort from his namesake, Brindle on to the bar only for Eastwood to poke home the rebound. Garstang were all at sea when Brindle had to make another save with his legs again from Norcross’s Brindle.

It was 1–1 after 22 minutes, Hastings’ cross had been headed away for a corner by Thompson and from the resulting kick by Anderson, Poole had got across his man at the near post and headed home.

The Garstang defenders were playing statutes when Eastwood was left with the easiest of chances to put the visitors in front on 27 minutes.

Garstang just weren’t functioning as a unit although Draycott did bring two good saves out of Brown in the Norcross goal before the interval.

The second half started at a frantic pace, Fawcett working the Norcross keeper once again.

A defining moment for Norcross came in the 60th minute when former Garstang midfielder Danny Whittaker who had controlled the midfield area, limped off.

The pressure was building on the Norcross defence but Thompson and Morris were holding firm and it began to look like all Garstang’s efforts were to be in vain until manager Swan sent on Gardner, Benson and Bell for Gierke, Glennie and Anderson with 23 minutes to go.

The change seemed to do the trick when Hastings hammered home the equaliser within 12 minutes.

Garstang continued to bombard the Norcross goal but it wasn’t looking like a winner would come, Thompson in particular kicking and heading everything away, that was until Poole nipped in with the winner in the 94th minute.

This wasn’t a vintage performance by the “Riversiders” but it was three points and keeps them in the top four after seven games.

The game was sponsored by Sue White Secretarial Services who chose Chris Anderson as the man of the match.
