Garstang started the game much the brighter of the two sides and were on the front foot straight from the kick-off.
On six minutes Kippax laid the ball the ball off to Roskell who should have done better from eight yards out.
However it didn’t take long for the first goal to arrive when Panepinto, who was causing the Norcross defence a lot of problems, was brought down on the edge of the box and Dan Sutcliff’s free kick went through the wall and into the bottom corner for a deserved lead.
Unfortunately for Garstang the lead only lasted four minutes when a hotly disputed free kick on the half way line was pumped into the box, it was headed out to the edge of the box where C Richardson caught it beautifully and the ball flew into the top corner.
Garstang still looked the most likely and an Andy Taylor free kick was only inches away from restoring the lead but on 30 minutes a rare foray into the visitors box led to A Richardson scoring with a free header. Garstang were unlucky again on the stroke of half time when Sutcliff’s free kick eluded everyone and drifted just wide of the far post.
The second half was a bit of a stalemate with Norcross defending their lead and relying on long punts from the keeper Forsythe in the hope of a defensive mistake and although some of Garstang’s build-up play was good no-one took the responsibility to get the final shot away and when they did, it was way off target. Norcross had a couple of chances late on but Curwen in the Garstang goal was up to the challenge. Garstang will feel they should have had something out of this game but it is all to play for in the Houston cup semi final against the same opposition on Thursday 25th April at Thornton Cleveleys FC, kick- off 6.30pm.
