This was a complete away performance on Saturday, March 30 by a Garstang side without the services of regulars Glennie and Gierke.

The Riversiders dominated from the kick off, with Stone fizzing a cross into the danger area after only eight minutes but unfortunately there was no one there to take advantage. Then Poole neatly chested the ball down before setting up Stone who struck a fine shot just over the bar.

Turton had only the occasional foray into the Garstang half before Squirrell scored the all important goal when he rose high to head home a perfect corner by Anderson after 35 minutes. It could have been two when Draycott displayed some great footwork to provide Fawcett with a chance but the midfielder’s strike skimmed the bar.

Turton’s first real threat on the Garstang goal came soon after the second half restart, Crossley brought down Jones on the edge of the box, the resulting free kick being tipped away by Brindle. Turton had upped their game but still couldn’t find a way past three resolute central defenders and a midfield that worked hard to close their opponents down. Johnson was booked for the part he played in a minor altercation with Stone. Crossley was then booked for his heavy challenge on Lomax with 60 minutes on the clock.

Garstang were looking to increase their lead. A Draycott volley looked like it was on its way into the Turton net until a defender blocked the ball deflecting it for a corner. The resulting kick was headed on to the bar by the impressive Osbourne.

Although Garstang had their share of defending to do, Brindle was seldom troubled in goal and the visitors could have gone further in front when a pin point pass by Draycott into the path of Mattichechia resulted into a shot into the side netting with 10 minutes to go.

A clumsy challenge by Anderson in the closing minutes earned the unselfish midfielder a yellow as Garstang eased their way to the final whistle with the promotion drive firmly on track.
