A renewed confidence saw Iain Swan’s Garstang seal an emphatic victory at the Riverside.
Tom Heywood’s late effort for fifth placed Crooklands was little consolation after a brace from Matthew Poole plus further strikes from Leon Gierke, Matthew Bell, Gary Fawcett and Chris Anderson sealed a deserved three points for Garstang, a result which puts pressure on their rivals in a bid to avoid the drop from the West Lancashire Premier Division.
Swan said his squad had been buoyed by the 2-0 result at Eagley, and the boss will hope the thrashing of Crooklands at home had put the side in good stead for their vital three-pointer against rivals Fulwood Amateurs last night (Tuesday).
Swan said: “Arguably Saturday was our best performance of the season on the back of some poor results.
“Everyone played their part, we changed the shape of the side which was partly dictated with the return of ‘Gierky’ his presence making a difference.
“As long as we can take that performance into the remaining games then we should be okay.”
Garstang now sit in 10th place on 29 points, just two points above the relegation zone but with games in hand.
The Riversiders will have home advantage again in their game against Euxton Villa on Saturday before a trip to play high-flyers Blackpool Wren Rovers next Tuesday, April 15.
Their remaining games are away to Longridge Town, Slyne with Hest and Euxton Villa.
