The Garstang players must have enjoyed this Monday Bank Holiday stroll, having had to work so hard in Saturday’s victory at Turton.
Crossley and Poole failed pre -match fitness tests and were replaced by Glennie and Jack in the starting line up.
A none-too-confident looking Millom ’keeper somehow managed to keep out early efforts by Stone and Draycott before the first goal came after only 10 minutes when a glanced header over the hands of the Millom keeper from a Glennie free kick opened the scoring.
The second came after 26 minutes when Fawcett drove home following a clever back heel by Squirrell.
The third after 34 minutes was probably the pick. Swarbrick had clattered Squirrell on the edge of the box and up stepped Anderson.
He curled his shot round the wall and into the top corner of the net to show that you don’t have to watch Premiership football to see players with great techniques. Garstang scored two more goals in the second half thanks to the Anderson-Squirrell combination, the former providing the pass for both goals that enabled the makeshift striker to complete his hat-trick.
The Garstang manager sent on Curwen, Swindlehurst and Bardsley to see out the last 20 minutes and if it had not have been for some wayward finishing the score could have been considerably higher.
A boost to the goal difference and the players confidence was what this fixture was about as Garstang strive to bounce back to the Premier Division at the first attempt.
