ANOTHER postponement for the first team resulted in the first team taking over the second team fixture at Mill Hill for much needed match practice.

Due to the manager’s absence assistant Manager, Leon Gierke took charge of this one and included Oscar Panepinto in the starting line up.

On an excellent playing surface Garstang took the lead in the 12th minute when young Panepinto headed down for Draycott to finish in style.

Mill Hill were level in three minutes when the unmarked Hunt headed past the unsighted Brindle. Garstang weren’t having it all there own way before a neat turn and shot by Poole had made it 1 - 2 for the visitors.

By the 25th minute it was 1–3 this time Panepito did well before crossing for Draycott who applied a clinical finish.

Mill hill had no intention of lying down, Brindle saving from Scholey after a couple of goalmouth scrambles.

Panepinto brought a great save out of home keeper, Davies at the beginning of the second half. The keeper then had to be at his best to keep out a Makin free-kick.

A sloppy Garstang defence allowed Scholey to pull another goal back then an immediate response saw Poole latch on to a long clearance by Brindle and coolly slot home to restore Garstang’s two goal advantage.

Tattersall headed in off the bar in the 59th minute to make it 3–4 to give Mill Hill hope but it wasn’t to be for the home team.

Graham and Swindlehurst replaced Panepinto and Draycott who had both made significant contributions to the game.

Swindlehurst was soon welcomed to the game with a crunching tackle by Charnock that earned the defender a yellow.

Whether the tackle was in or out of the box was debatable but it didn’t matter when Anderson stepped up and curled the kick round the keeper into the bottom corner of the net, 3–5. Anderson then blotted his copy book with a rash challenge that earned him a yellow card.

A mix up in the Mill Hill defence by Blamire and keeper, Davies saw another long punt up field by Brindle find its way into the home net off Blamire to confirm the final 3–6 scoreline although further chances were not taken by Poole, Swindlehurst and Graham.

The game had served its purpose giving valuable playing time to first team players who on the positive side showed some quality forward play but on the negative side were sometimes somewhat sloppy at the back a fact that wouldn’t have gone unnoticed by the team management.
