AFTER a great effort from volunteer groundstaff Steve Baker, Bob Freeman and Dan Curwen The Riverside was looking a picture for this fixture.

Bae/Ee were struggling from the start when a couple of ‘no shows’ meant they had only 11 and no subs.

However, they started quite brightly and probably had the best of the first 10 minutes before Garstang started to get a grip of the game.

The home teams first chance came on 17 mins when Dan Sutcliff played in a good ball and Graham just couldn’t wrap his foot round it to get it on target.

From this point the hosts took charge, Graham had a couple of chances, one saved by the keeper’s legs another somehow cleared off the line and Swindlehurst had a header just wide before the first goal finally came on 26 minutes.

Panepinto was brought down on the edge of the box and Taylor Jnrs quality free kick was met by a diving header by club captain Gaz Fawcett.

A couple of minutes later Joe Miller looked to be brought down in the box, but the ref decreed it a ‘dive’ and Joe managed to talk himself into the book. Two minutes later ‘man of the match’ Adam Roskell, played in Fawcett who finished with aplomb. Garstang continued to dominate and Panepinto was unlucky not to add to the score with his shot coming back off the foot of the post.

The game ended as a contest when on 42 minutes Leach was given a straight red for a lunge at Swindlehurst, maybe a bit harsh but it was studs up and risking the consequences. The home side continued to dominate in the second half and on 56 minutes Fawcett won the ball in midfield, played in Graham and he made no mistake beating the advancing keeper. The lads then took their foot off the gas and Bae actually had a couple of chances that Curwen snuffed out. Matt Baldwin came on after a long, long lay off from a back injury and it only took him four minutes to get back on the score sheet after being played in by Fawcett. Management team Alec Curwen and Paul Bailey were not totally satisfied by the performance but from the touchline it looked pretty good and with a bit of luck the score could have been doubled.
