Garstang FC are delighted to announce the recent appointment of Steve Smith as the new youth team manager.

Smith, who lives in Scorton, has previous experience of youth football, having previously successfully managed teams at Park Celtic, County Meath, Ireland.

He is the latest addition to Lee Baker’s managerial staff during the close season, following on from the arrival of Neil Beesley as the assistant manager.

Smith said: “I was really interested listening to Lee Baker’s ideas for the development of the club and decided I wanted to get involved.

“I am very excited at the opportunity to run the youth team and we have already had one trial where I saw some talented players.”

That initial trial, which took place at the club’s The Beeches training ground earlier this month.

The club has now arranged a second youth team trial, again at The Beeches, Bowgreave Rise, Garstang, for this Saturday, beginning at 10.30am.

Would-be players are welcome to attend the trial provided they will be under 18 years of age on August 31, 2016.

They can turn up on the morning with boots and shin pads but anyone requiring further information can contact Dave Graham on 07501 119458.

The second trial for next season’s youth team comes 48 hours before the first team returns to pre-season training ahead of next season’s West Lancashire League campaign.

Baker’s players begin their preparations at The Beeches on Monday, June 27 with a second session arranged for Thursday, June 30, both beginning at 7pm.

Again, as with the youth team trials, anybody interested in trying out for the first team can turn up on the night.
