West Lancashire League Reserve Division 1

Leyland United 0 Garstang Reserves 2

Garstang, under the temporary stewardship of Paul Southward and Marc Armstrong, made the short journey to Leyland looking to extend the divisions only 100% winning record.

On a very tight, sloping pitch Garstang were much the better team in the early exchanges with Miller and Ireland commanding at the back. Garstang were soon ahead when Jack curled in a pinpoint corner from the left wing onto the head of the on rushing Miller who buried a bullet header into the Leyland net.

With the next attack Garstang extended their lead further with an almost identical goal. Sutcliff whipped in a corner from the right wing which was headed home by Jack on the far post.

Two-nil up and Garstang were in control.

Panepinto and Roberts were always a thorn in the Side of Leyland looking dangerous with some great link up play.

Roberts found Panepinto whose 25yard shot was only parried by the keeper, Roberts saw his rebound shot deflect off a defender pass the wrong side of the post.

The excellent Sutcliff had a shot well saved and Garstang were in control, restricting Leyland to one chance when the Leyland forward headed wide from an excellent right wing cross.

The second half continued in the same vein as the first with Garstang in control.

Panepinto hit a great volley on the turn just past the post, Roberts and Jack went close and Leyland were unable to fashion a single chance due to the resilience and skill of the Garstang defensive unit.

Final score Leyland United 0 Garstang Reserves 2.

Overall, this was a comfortable victory with Garstang never having to get into top gear.

Sutcliff and Ireland were excellent and pushed Miller hard for the man of the match award.
