Garstang Yth 2

Tarleton Corinthians Yth 2

Tarleton were the first team to make the trip to Morecambe but were greeted with a strange round yellow thing in a clear blue sky.

Several home players were still missing through injury and illness but it was good to see Andre Dallas at the heart of the defence.

Garstang started slowly, a Phil Jamin shot going wide was all they had to show for their efforts. It was the visitors who held the upper hand but the defence were coping well restricting Tarleton to a few half chances.

The first goal came on 35 mins, a corner was cleared to the edge of the Garstang box but it was lobbed over the defence with a Tarleton forward beating the offside trap to shoot home and give the visitors the lead.

The second half started with Chris Nix adjusting the formation and Mower coming on for Hodson.

This seemed to give Garstang a more attacking threat and the longer the game went on the more dominant they became.

From a free kick Mower shot wide and as the pressure built on the Tarleton goal it only seemed a matter of time before they got the equaliser. It duly arrived when Mark Bone hit a cross field pass to Phil Jamin who cut inside the fullback and laid it into the path of Dan Hall who shot home for a well worked goal 1-1.

Minutes later a James Gibbins through ball was latched onto by Rory Mower who lobbed the on rushing keeper to give Garstang the lead.

As Garstang put many good moves together and created many good chances it seemed just a matter of time before the killer 3rd goal would come.

Joe Collinson came on for Jack Gale having had an excellent game.

With the final whistle 5 mins away Tarleton hit a hopeful ball down the middle. It bounced between several players, wrong footing the defence, but a Tarleton forward was the first to react . He had a free run at goal, but as he went round Hickson, the keeper stretched out an arm and brought him down. Luckily Hickson only got a yellow. The penalty was struck home confidently into the right hand corner to bring the scores level.

Garstang didn’t have time for any more meaningful attacks and the game ended all square. This felt like 2 points dropped as Garstang were so dominant in the second half but they are improving every game.
