Garstang FC 2

AFC Blackpool 3

Garstang Youth played the last league game of 2013 coming out the wrong side of a five-goal encounter with AFC Blackpool. The squad was depleted once again with injuries and illness leaving only two subs available.

The home side were fired up and immediately dominated, with Turner and Swale controlling mid-field and the defence holding firm with the ball was mainly in the AFC Blackpool half. On 30 minutes Garstang got their reward as Ball, after several attempts, poked the ball home whilst still on the ground.

Blackpool drew level just before half time on a rare break away shooting home from just inside the box.

The visitors took the lead shortly after the break when a left wing cross was headed home. Garstang wasted chances to even the score before a Blackpool striker went on a run beating three players and rounded Jones for a two-goal lead.

The pressure finally told with 10 minutes to go when Assalone side footed home from a Murphy free kick.

The home side went looking for the equaliser and the Blackpool keeper saved at Ball and Assolone’s feet and watched a Murphy free kick hit the post and bounce to safety. More attempts were made as the final whistle approached. Notably a Bisby effort going wide and a Cross effort going the wrong side of the post. But the equaliser wouldn’t come and the whistle went to end Garstang’s unbeaten home record.
