Michael Walling celebrates his record breaking century

GARSTANG skipper Michael Walling is on course to smash all batting records this season after he thumped his FOURTH century of the season on Saturday.

Walling could become the first batsman ever to pass 1,000 runs in a season in the Palace Shield Premier League after reaching 927 runs with his latest knock of 107 off 107 balls against Fylde.

That latest century sent the records tumbling, as he became the club’s most prolific batsman in a season, comfortably overhauling Cliff Welling’s previous record of 868 league runs that has stood since 2002.

And with eight games still to play he is on track to raise the benchmark for the league, with the existing record of 981 within his grasp.
